Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is BlueHeat® and why do I need it?
BlueHeat® is a compact device that is professionally installed into your car, truck, SUV, or van and pre-heats your vehicle. One version of BlueHeat® delivers warm air to the interior. The second version of BlueHeat® delivers warm air to the interior and heats the engine coolant to pre-heat the engine. Both versions operate without needing to run your engine. During interior pre-heating, the windshield is defrosted. Using BlueHeat® reduces use of fuel, reduces time spent on cleaning windshields, reduces harmful emissions created from idling, and produces a warmer and safer driving environment for you.
2. What is the cost of BlueHeat®?
M.S.R.P. is $1,795 USD, installed.
3. What is the BlueHeat® warranty?
BlueHeat® is warrantied for 3 years with receipt of the BlueHeat® registration card.
4. How will it affect my vehicle manufacturer's warranty?
Adding BlueHeat® will not void your manufacturer's warranty. BlueHeat® meets and/or exceeds OEM warranties.
5. Where can I purchase BlueHeat®?
BlueHeat® can be purchased at one of the Certified Installers in the Webasto BlueHeat® Certified Installer Network.
6. Where is BlueHeat® installed on the vehicle?
Each vehicle is different, so installation placement varies. BlueHeat® Coolant Heater is typically installed underneath the hood, inside the engine compartment, or along the frame of the vehicle. BlueHeat® Air Heater maybe installed inside or outside the vehicle, in the passenger compartment or even in the cargo area. BlueHeat's durable construction and superior performance enable it to operate well in these environments.
7. How does BlueHeat® work?
Once activated, BlueHeat® Coolant Heater draws power from the vehicle's battery and fuel from the vehicle's fuel tank. BlueHeat® burns the fuel to create heat. Circulating the engine's coolant, BlueHeat® heats the coolant and delivers it to the heat exchanger. Heat is transferred and warm air is distributed to the vehicle's interior, defrosting windshields and creating a comfortable environment. The heated coolant is then circulated through the engine before returning to the BlueHeat® heater, providing a pre-heated engine, and completely eliminating the need for damaging cold starts.
The BlueHeat® Air Heater, once activated, draws fuel from the vehicle's fuel tank and burns it to create heat. The Air Heater then blows heated air into the vehicle.
8. Do I still need to idle my vehicle if I have BlueHeat®?
No! The main benefit from using BlueHeat® is that you no longer need to idle your vehicle to warm the engine and interior or to defrost the windshields.
9. Are there any limitations when operating BlueHeat®?
Yes. The important thing to remember is to run your vehicle for as long as, or longer than, you have run the BlueHeat®. For example; if you run the BlueHeat® for 20 minutes, make sure to drive your vehicle for at least 20 minutes. You need to do this to fully recharge the vehicle's battery, which is used during the operation of BlueHeat®.
10. How do I start BlueHeat®?
BlueHeat® can be started using one of several methods; the digital timer for the Coolant Heater and the rheostat for the Air Heater or both with the key-fob remote. Other options are available for both the Coolant Heater and the Air Heater.
